We Can Talk Progress Report 2025/2026 – A new model of mental health training for acute hospital staff

A year ago, We Can Talk made a strategic choice. After years of national delivery, we rebuilt our model from the ground up: direct partnerships with individual acute trusts, whole-organisation deployment, every member of staff and every age of patient, in one hour.

This Progress Report is a year-one snapshot of what’s becoming clear. Twelve trusts have committed in our first year, reaching more than 100,000 staff, students and volunteers. Every trust to reach renewal has chosen to continue. And the pattern of impact we’re seeing — particularly among the staff hardest to reach — points to a new model of mental health training in acute care.

The report is written for chief nurses, chief operating officers, chief people officers, and others making decisions about workforce development and CPD investment in acute trusts.
